I’ve got Eurodyne Maestro, now what?

 

After hearing this basic statement from Apikol customers on more than one occasion, it seemed time to explain how we approach the flashing and tuning process with Maestro. This first entry will cover the initial flashing process, while a subsequent article will deal with logging data, applying that data, and editing files for re-flash.

 

If you are confident that you will eventually go with Maestro, but haven’t purchased your injectors, turbo, or MAF yet, please contact us regarding existing base files for your application. Using an existing base file can save quite a lot of tuning time, as these files are tested and proven by Eurodyne for specific components.

 

Step 1. Follow the instructions included with your Maestro cable carefully, and download the Maestro Tuning and Flash applications to your laptop.

 

Step 2. After receiving your base file from Eurodyne, get everything setup and ready to go for the initial re-flash with the license file. This procedure should ALWAYS include the following practices:

 

  1. Connect your laptop to an external power source
  2. Connect a suitable battery charger to your vehicle’s battery
  3.  

Step 3. Open the flashing application, click “flash ecu”, and select the license file that was provided by Eurodyne. (The license file is only used when flashing an ECU for the first time, all subsequent flashes will be done with the base file or a modified base file)

 

Step 4. Once you select the license file, the application will take over and complete the flashing process automatically. DO NOT DO ANYTHING with the computer while this process is being carried out. (no e-mail, no web browsing, or anything that could interrupt the flashing process)

 

Step 5. As the flashing application is completed, it will prompt for the vehicle ignition to be turned off. At this point, you can turn off the ignition, and then click the “ignition is off” button. After the progress bar completes, it will prompt for the ignition to be turned on. You can turn the ignition on, and then click the “ignition is on” button. At this point, you should see “success” in the status bar, and the flashing will have been completed.

 

Step 6. Although not absolutely necessary, you should then clear the fault codes from the ECU. You can do this directly from the flashing application by choosing Diagnostics from the top menu bar and selecting “clear fault codes”.

 

Step 7. Lastly, it is a good idea to re-adapt the throttle body before starting the vehicle. Again, this can be accomplished directly from the flashing application. Simply click “measuring blocks”, enter 060, and click “switch to basic settings”. After the throttle adaptation is completed and displays “ok”, click “go back and you are all set to fire up the car.

 

Step 8. When starting the vehicle for the first time following re-flash, we will generally turn on the ignition, open the flashing application, and click “maestro log” (although it is not available for the older ECU types). With the flashing application open, start the vehicle and simply observe the data while the vehicle is warming up. Some vehicles may display some idle instability or other strange effects, but these should go away as the vehicle warms up, and not occur on subsequent starts.
